Hao Li

Hao Li is a freelance illustrator and animator based in New Jersey, originally from China.

Since the beginning of his career, his artistic practice has explored the relationship between illustration and motion, focusing on how drawn imagery can evolve through time and movement. His work is characterized by a refined, contemporary visual style that preserves the clarity and beauty of drawing while introducing subtle animation to create depth, rhythm, and narrative. His approach is defined by this balance—merging still and moving image into a cohesive, expressive visual language.

He has collaborated with a range of commercial and cultural clients, with his work appearing in projects for Google and Chase, as well as nonprofit initiatives including an educational animated film for UNICEF. In addition to his commercial work, he has contributed animation to documentary film projects, including a feature on Geoff McFetridge that received critical recognition and multiple awards.

His work is recognized for its versatility and sensitivity, offering a thoughtful exploration of how illustration can expand beyond the static image into immersive, time-based storytelling.
