Joanna Becker

Joanna Becker is a freelance illustrator and designer born and based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

She graduated with a BFA in Illustration from the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design in 2021. Her artistic journey is marked by a deep fascination with storytelling, an epiphany she experienced early in her training that led her to bridge the worlds of fine art, animation, and photography. Her creative research is notably influenced by traditional illumination and medieval art.

A prolific creator even before completing her studies, she has illustrated several children’s books, including The Circus Train, Maggy Maye, and The Moth that Flew to the Moon, demonstrating an ability to adapt her style from nostalgic Seussian aesthetics to complex digital collaborations. Beyond her studio practice, she is a co-founder and co-owner of Bushi and Brush, a unique “arts dojo” that integrates self-defense with creative exploration. Her work is characterized by a “business mindset” and a structured approach to design, ensuring that every project – from physical sculptures to full digital illustrations – resonates with a clear and compelling narrative.
